Here is my write up on how to modify your controls for cheap (I actually don’t know how much it will cost I already had every thing) first I will start with the clutch. On long rides it can get hard to pull when your fingers are tiered so that is why I put grease on the pivot bolt and on the perch (were the lever rubs). You can use any kind of grease. I used standard grease but you can opt for water-proof or heat resistant grease. This may not be very notice able on short rides but on long rides it is very noticeable. When you tighten your pivot bolt (the one that holds the clutch lever in) do not over tighten only tighten until it is a snug fit. If you over tighten that bolt in t will not let it pull lightly and all your work will be for a lost cause. This brings me to my next part. Do not tighten the perch super tight on the handle bar. You want it tightened to where your bike will tip and it will move. Once it moves you can just hit it back. So when you wreck or tip over it will not brake your lever. Just make sure it is tight enough for when you pull the clutch (or brake) lever it will not move. Next is the grip on your levers. I know progrip makes lever grips but when I installed mine it was super hard and it would spin on the lever (even when dry) so I put electrical tape on my lever instead. This helps your grip, and it helps keep your fingers warm on a cold ride. You can also use the tape to tape something broken back together when you are on a trail ride. Next is the throttle. If you have a plastic throttle tube do not put any kind of lube on it. If you have an aluminum throttle tube do not use aerosol sprays use a tiny dab of motor oil to lube it. On the throttle housing the crack that lets you take it apart can get dust in it so I tape over that too. The tape on the throttle tube housing stops dust from getting through. On the front brake were the lever pushes on the master cylinder there is supposed to be rubber in between. If your rubber has been worn away you can put grease on where the brake lever pushes on the master cylinder. This will make the pull better and it will prevent wear on the metal that the brake lever pushes on. You can also grease the cables with a cable greaser and aerosol spray like wd-40. If you put grease on your bike that will attract dirt so you may need to wash the grease off every three or four rides. It may take a little work but it makes every thing smoother.
